Between 13 and 21 March I spend time by skiing at Ukraine. The first idea was from my friend Palič, and he agreed with CK Alpina at Zakarpatskou Ukrajinu v zimě for the trip. At the beginning it seems, that we are alone for skimountaneering, but we met two guys from 155. HO Vsetín Petr Šiška, Joséfek and daughter of Petr Šiška. The rest of the group are people from all parts of Czech Republic, including brainless guys from the capital city.
Hoverla in all its beauty
After crossing the Hungarian – Ukraine border the world around us has changed. Broken roads, small wooden houses, poverty everywhere, shortly a different world. But the people seems to be happy, at least in first sight…
Taxi UAZ
We have visited many interesting places during the journey to our first accommodation, but everybody was so tired, that our biggest wish was a bed. In a fact, not everybody’s biggest wish, because Palic and me visited the local pub and stayed there till the closing time.
Petr and Palic at the beginning of the path to Hoverla
On Sunday we were planning to climb the highest peak of Ukraine – Hoverla (2061 m). Surprisingly, it was really nice weather this morning, so we had to overcome the weakness caused by yesterday‘s alkohol and go. We hired local taxi – ex-military off-road UAZ for first part of the trip. Nothing else could go through road like this. We had to re-valued our first initial optimistic estimates of the timeline of ascent because of deep powder. We reached the top of Hoverla at three o’clock in order: Palic (run up) and me (groveled). Petr boycotted the final ascent. We used same line for descent because we hadn’t enough time.
Disclosure at Ukraine
The weather spoiled on Monday, so we went whit the rest of group to Ukraine biggest ski-center called Bukovel. We bought tickets for funny price and spend all day skiing on 53 km of slops and 11, mostly four seated chair-lifts.
The top of Hoverla and Palic
Tuesday's move to free ride Paradise Dragobrat was performed through a military off-road, which we renamed to „Shaker“ after a couple of kilometers. Inside was a bit cramped, occupancy of sixteen people, including all bags and skis and no place for oxygen. After accommodation we tried local slopes and powder. Last line was to pretty steep valley, but it has got one problem- any way out. It was very funny to climb back, using snow bridges over flowing water.
Accommodation in Jasin
The rest of days at Dragobrat was bad weather, but with fresh powder. We spend this time by skiing, building jump and again skiing. But the last jump was fatal for Palic, he felled down with painful face. Our diagnoses: dislocated shoulder. Official medicine diagnoses: fractured shoulder blade and stretched ligaments.
