There was taken place an interesting Dynafit Beast Event in the Italian Dolomites in January 10–13, 2013, and this event brought us an introduction of the new trendy freeride Dynafit BEAST bindings with breaking strength of DIN 16. So far, only a brief introduction, practical test is going to be available for us in coming days.

Why not to deal with something such as the binding with release force up to DIN16? For real skialpinists who have settled their binding for DIN 8-10 are these values rather supernatural. In recent years there has been a higher number of skiers moving from groomed slopes in the open terrain where except of going downhill they have been challenging to new desire of jumping for a high joy. This is the reason why contemporary skialpinists are looking for more efficient binding better than sufficient binding DIN 12 or less.

Therefore most orthodox freeriders keeps looking for the maximum binding breaking strength (binding strength less then DIN 16 has been rejected now). The first and still most widely used binding in this category are different variations of the current Marker Duke EPF (with pair weight of 2 790grams, size L). In 2009 Všeta…wrote an interesting article about following binding with the title – 2 000 high altitude meters with Marker Duke 16 binding in Kamchatka.

Dynafit company responded to the growing number of demanding freeriders by development of binding DIN 16 together with boots made for a standard TLT binding (weight less than 2 000 grams). As the main outcome of provided Dynafit´s company effort is a revolutionary binding Dynafit BEAST introduced to the public during the Dynafit Beast Event in the Italian Dolomites in January 10–13, 2013.

Dynafit BEAST is a first ground breaking freeride binding DIN 16 which has been completely frameless! Dynafit BEAST has been using TLT standard for the tip and heel of the boot. There has been absolutely different a shape of metal reinforcement on the heel of the boot. The boot stiffener was produced to be larger in order to withstand the highest breaking strength. It has been obvious that the original triangular stiffener could not be used here in that case at all. There have been now three screws instead of the current one on the hell bone boot.

The Dynafit BEAST binding, is based on the concept of TLT. However it has been fully step on activated binding. The tip of the binding offers two positions. The first is a walking position and it has not been pivoted. The second is a downhill position and has been rotated from the center of binding in both directions. The BEAST is built with a safety shutdown that provides quick separation from the tip and heel binding on the ski.

Rear part of the binding has two vertical supports for the output. The basic position of the boot tip has been 17 millimeters above the ski and the boot heel (Dynafit Vulcan) has been 23 millimeters above the ski. Switching heel height adjustment is easy with the help of sticks. Then fore the actual fasten binding for going downhill can be simply settled only for DIN 16 as the innovated heel construction needs to use the force corresponding to DIN 4.

In 2013 there is going to be produced the series of 2 500 Dynafit BEAST bindings with the names of their respective owners.

In coming future I am going to have an opportunity to try out Dynafit BEAST binding on the ski Dynafit Huascaran with ski boots Dynafit Vulcan. I can not wait for that :-)
